As a vegetarian, avoiding leather is my main concern when buying shoes. Luckily, the product details indicate these cuties are made of polyurethane uppers with synthetic soles. No leather or animal products mentioned (and UO is good about listing materials accurately) - they even seem to be vegan friendly! I think I'll get a pair. :-)
