I'm not sure if I'm absolutely correct, but I always understood the "M" to stand for "Medium." I have wider feet, so if I to buy shoes, I would buy a "W." But I purchased these skates and they were a perfect fit even though I have wide feet. It's just a matter of how slim the soles on the bottom are. As for the length in inches, I'm not too sure about that. But I know that I usually wear a 10 in shoe size and I bought a 10 and it was perfect. So I would say to go with your normal shoe size. If you wear a half, I would recommend going the next size up instead of smaller because you would rather have them be a bit too large than cutting off your circulation. :)

The "M" denotes medium; all of our shoes are medium width. The "H" denotes a half size (Example: 8-M = size 8H-M = size 8 1/2) If only whole sizes are offered, and you normally wear a half size, we recommend you order the next size up.
