8 shots because of the chemistry. They have to use different chemicals so the film is slightly thicker. The original Polaroid chemistry can't be re-made, so they're making everything from scratch.

the impossible project bought the old polaroid factory in enschede, holland and started to make instant films from scratch. the films fit type 600 and sx 70 cameras (with ND filters).
check here how the films are made - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vw4rttFGHiM
the films are still a bit experimental - so definitely SHIELD the images from light in the first 3 minutes.... if done right the pics come out MARVELLOUS.

Question

Is this new film compatable with other, older, Polaroid cameras?

I own a Polaroid Square Shooter 2 Land Camera that requires type 88 film and i was wondering if this new film would work with it.

I am sure that my camera is all fine and the film before this one worked well but when I bought this new film for my 600 polaroid it didnt work. It came out too overexposed and the image is barely visible. I cant say the same for other cameras though. I wasted a 30$ film.

Question

Has anyone used this film in a Polaroid 600 Camera yet?

I stil have my Polaroid 600 camera that I bought around 2002. I want to try this film but because of the expense want to know for sure if someone has tried it in a Polaroid 600 and whether it worked or not.

It works with 600 cameras! I have the 600 land camera and it works. Hopefully your camera is in good working order! There is a battery in the film so you can't really test the camera without the film. Of course you could find a photoshop that sells Polaroid film and see if they have a recently finished blank film cartridge to test your camera. If you have any friends who use 600 film you could borrow a recently finished film cartridge to see if your camera is working. You could also try to get your camera serviced if it's not working. If you need to take the film out after it's been put in for some reason, do it in the dark so you don't ruin the film.

It does work, but it is tricky to use. Its extremely sensitive, and needs to be properly stored after you have taken the picture.

Only if you use a Neutral Density Filter like this one: http://shop.the-impossible-project.com/shop/accessories/ac_nd_filter_twin

The SX-70 was designed for 100-speed film. The PX 680 film is for 600-speed cameras, so you need the filter to accommodate for the film speed difference.
